FOUR SEASON LODGE

Official Selection of SILVERDOCS 2008
American Film Institute / Discovery Channel Documentary Festival

In an inspiring and startlingly funny verité documentary, a community of friends who survived  the darkness of Europe's death camps,  return each year to the lush mountains of New York's Catskills. FOUR SEASONS LODGE introduces a group that trumped Hitler's Final Solution, in what may be their last season together. It's a counterintuitive documentary about the Holocaust: an as-life-happens portrayal of Survivors who meet each summer to celebrate life with cooking, cards and Saturday-night dance parties in their casino. Directed by New York Times journalist Andrew Jacobs, with beautiful cinematography by a team of filmmakers,  it captures a powerfully resonant living history, alongside tightly bonded friendships,  dancing, flirting and fighting, as the fate of their community hangs in the balance.  The film explores themes of friendship, getting older, and living well despite haunting memories, as felt through  compelling people and the richness of their intensely communal lives.
