Kim Connell is the President and Executive Producer at Rainlake Productions, an innovative documentary collective in the heart of Tribeca founded in 2001. Over the past 15 years she has edited, produced and directed award-winning feature documentaries and television programs. Currently she is directing Mariachi High, a documentary capturing a year in the life of a high school Mariachi band with support from Latino Public Broadcasting and National Geographic’s All Roads grant. She is also in post-production on Four Seasons Lodge, a documentary executive produced and shot by Albert Maysles. She recently edited and produced Follow My Voice With the Music of Hedwig, an official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival ‘06 and Sundance Channel broadcast premiere. She was the Senior Editor on the Rainlake documentary feature, Crossing Arizona, an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival ‘06 in the documentary competition that has won numerous awards. Recently, she was the Senior Editor of Religion: A Pop Culture History for VH1 and co-produced TLC’s Black Las Vegas: In Through the Backdoor (2004 Bronze Telly Award, 2004 New York Festivals) and a Discovery Health pilot, Medical Profile: Christopher Reeve. She was honored with a Silver and Bronze Telly for the half-hour series Children First for ABC. Over the years, she has also produced and edited for Reebok, Grolsch, CCG Metamedia, Globalvision Inc. and the Ford Foundation as well as Showtime.


FEATURE DOCUMENTARIES

Director - MARIACHI HIGH (a RAINLAKE film)
In development with support from Latino Public Broadcasting and the National Geographic All Roads Project. The children of Mexican immigrants are confronted by negative stereotypes in every aspect of pop culture, media and politics. Mariachi High will spend an intimate and candid year with one high school Mariachi band, using the music, and the band itself, as a lens to examine the challenges faced by Mexican-American teenagers.

stands in bracing contrast to lives marked by harrowing loss.

Official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival in the American Documentary Competition. Crossing Arizona examines America's immigration and border security crisis through the eyes of those directly affected and reveals the surprising political stances people take when government policy fails everyone. Winner of numerous awards, including the Munich Film Festival’s One Future Prize and a Cine Golden Eagle award for best independent documentary feature. Broadcast premiere on Sundance Channel, Nov. 2006.

Producer and Senior Editor - FOLLOW MY VOICE: WITH THE MUSIC OF HEDWIG (a RAINLAKE film)
Produced in association with Sundance Channel. One record producer, the creators of a cult film classic and some of the most influential indie rockers record a benefit album for a controversial LGBTQ youth center in New York City. Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig”documents the stories of four teens, echoing their struggles and aspirations with the music from the rock drama “Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. Broadcast premiere on Sundance Channel, June 2006.

Cheshire Ohio traces the final months of a small town in Appalachia that sits in the shadow of one of the world's largest coal-fired power plants.

Senior Editor –- THE MAKING AND MEANING OF WE ARE FAMILY
Official selection of the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. Broadcast premiere on TRIO. Legendary music producer Niles Rodgers gathered 200 artists, celebrities, emergency workers, police and victims' families to remake the song We Are Family to help promote tolerance and cultural understanding in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Edited for Globalvision, Inc.

This broadcast special charts the recent explosion of religion and pop, from the blockbuster movie The Passion of the Christ to Kanye West’s hip-hop smash Jesus Walks to the aggressive marketing of Christian hard-rock bands to Hollywood’s sudden interest in Kabbalah. Produced and edited for VH1.

Producer and Senior Editor - BLACK LAS VEGAS: IN THROUGH THE BACK DOOR (TLC)
The story of Sin City’s shrouded segregationist past told through the personal accounts of artists like Della Reese and The Commodores. This TLC special was produced and edited for KPITV. Winner of the 2004 International Television Programming and Promotion Competition World Medal and the 2004 Bronze Telly Award.

Medical Profile: Christopher Reeve, this one hour series pilot wove together the full story of the man, the artist and the life-long activist, who fought for the rights and benefits of all disabled people. Produced and edited for KPITV.

Co-producer and Editor - ABC'S CHILDREN FIRST
Twelve half-hour broadcast specials focused on issues facing America’s children. This ABC's Children First series hosted by Diane Sawyer, Connie Chung, and James McDaniel from NYPD Blue received a Bronze and Silver Telly, screened at The Human Rights Watch Film Festival in New York City and was recognized for excellence in children's programming by The President's Committee for the Arts and Humanities.
